Dr Lisa Friederich has recently been certified to perform skin microneedling treatments with SkinPen by Bellus Medical
This state-of-the-art device uses ‘collagen induction therapy’ to treat wrinkles, large pores and melasma (also known as skin discoloration, as well as acne and surgical scars).
It is the first globally approved microneedling device with a C.E. mark and I.S.O. certification. With as few as three non-invasive treatments spaced 30 days apart, you can improve the appearance of your skin for well over six months after your last treatment.
What is microneedling?
Just like it sounds, microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment where Dr Lisa creates tiny punctures in the skin using micro-fine needles (from 0.5 to 2 millimetres in diameter).
The SkinPen microneedling device creates these controlled micro-injuries to stimulate your body’s natural wound healing process. These tiny micro-injuries trigger the release of cytokines and growth factors that lead to the remodelling of collagen and elastin.
Microneedling stimulates the three phases of wound repair:
Penetrating the skin triggers your immune system to disinfect the wounds, eliminate debris, increase blood flow and create new tissue.
The wound is then re-built with new granulation cells, as well as a temporary (type III) collagen and elastin, which is part of the extracellular matrix. Additionally, a new network of blood vessels will develop.
The wound has now been replaced with new dermal tissues and blood vessels. The type III collagen in this freshly formed tissue will be replaced with stronger type I collagen, which contracts to generate a tightening, or ‘cling wrap’ effect on the skin.
What is PRP?
In recent years, platelet-rich plasma injections have become a highly sought-after, non-surgical procedure for facial and skin rejuvenation.
PRP therapy uses your own blood platelets to stimulate new cell growth which helps to improve your skin texture, tone and restore lost facial volume.
Your blood is made up of four components:
- Red blood cells
- White blood cells
Dr Lisa will take your blood and spin it in a centrifuge to separate the blood cells from the plasma and platelets. This is then reinjected into your skin by our SkinPen to stimulate collagen and new skin cells.
By using your own platelets, there is no risk of allergy or rejection of the treatment.
Why undergo microneedling and PRP with SkinPen?
This ground-breaking treatment is only available to professionals who are extensively certified and undergo annual training.
Dr Lisa has achieved Premier Partner status through extensive:
- Training and continued education in microneedling with SkinPen®, including annual re-certification
- Skinfuse® post-procedure skincare offered
- Length of time and expertise level in delivering the SkinPen® procedure
Does microneedling treatment hurt?
Both treatments are designed to be comfortable as they are minimally invasive. Most patients report feeling only the slight vibration of SkinPen during the procedure. Because Dr Lisa takes the extra time to use a topical anaesthetic, we are able to provide a more effective treatment with little, if any discomfort.
How quickly are results visible after a microneedling treatment?
Rejuvenated skin can generally be seen six to eight days following your procedure. Although, results will continue to increase over time. A course of at least three micro-needling sessions is usually recommended to achieve optimal results; however, almost all of Dr Lisa’s patients will notice a healthy glow to their skin the next day after their treatment.
